6 Simple Tips For An Organized Kitchen
1. Take everything out
First of all, pull out all your drawers, and open up all your kitchen cabinets.
The second thing to do is to take out EVERYTHING that’s inside, and lay everything out. Actually doing this part is very important, because you need to see everything that you have in your kitchen.
Next, you sort all your kitchen supplies accordingly to type, and how often you use the item.
If you want to be able to keep your organized kitchen staying organized. Above all it’s essential that you find a natural placement for all your things, it’s important that you find a system that really works for you.
2. Donate or throw away
It can be easy to be surprised when you see how much stuff you actually have in your kitchen drawers and cabinets! Maybe you don’t need 4 identical pots or that old worn out frying pan hiding in the way back of your cabinet?
You can donate all the kitchen supplies that can still be used, and you should throw away kitchen supplies that are broken.
3. Create space on your countertop
Many of us like to have the most essentials like certain oils, cutting boards and spices easily accessible on our countertops. Make sure you clear out some space for this, and why not add a practical but decorative feature and store them all in nice baskets or suitable trays for easy access.
I prefer to store some of my kitchen essentials on small trays, right next to the stove.
I love how decorative all the spices, herbs, and oil looks. Equally important; it’s practical having everything within easy reach while I’m cooking.
If you’re anything like me. Most likely you like to have your chopping board easy accessible. Furthermore, it’s really practical to have the chopping board close by where you are preparing your food.
Check out the Joseph Joseph Cutting Board Set with a storage case, for storing your chopping boards right on your countertop! I bought mine a couple of months ago, and I’ve been really happy with it. This cutting board set has 4 color-coded chopping boards, and it’s uniquely designed to easily prevent cross-contamination of different food types. I love the design of this cutting board set from Joseph Joseph, and I love having my chopping boards looking organized and within easy reach.
4. Sort by type
Group everything together by type, kitchen utensils, baking sheets, plastic wraps/foil, spices etc. Pots and pans can be grouped by type and can preferably stacked on top of each other. That way you’ll save a lot of space. Be sure to store the lid close by.
5. Store away items you don’t use on a regular basis
All the kitchen supplies and larger kitchen appliances that you rarely use can be stored somewhere else. Store the larger items in the basement, the attic or some other suitable place. This step will clear up a lot of extra space, making it easier for you to maintain your organized kitchen.
6. Refrigerator and freezer
Food that’s in the way back of your refrigerator is so easy to forget. Make sure you regularly have a look and see what kind of food you actually have in your refrigerator.
Whenever you have food or dairy products that are getting close to their expiration date. Consequently, make sure to place all the food that is soon to expire; somewhere you can easily see it when you open the refrigerator.
Now that you actually can see the food whenever you open the fridge door, you’re also making it much more likely for the food to actually be used; and not having to go to waste.
In the freezer, you can divide into own sections for meat, bread, and vegetables. A great tip is to use dividers and baskets to keep everything organized. Remember to also label everything with content and date.
